Amsterdam and Creative Urbanism
This course uses Amsterdam as a living laboratory to study the relationship between creativity, cities, and globalization. Through a combination of theoretical readings and regular fieldwork in key locations across the city, the course examines the ways in which global practices in art, media, and urban development are taking shape in a European city that has long functioned as a center of transnational exchange. Areas of focus range from street art, guerrilla gardening, and new media activism, to museum programming, city planning, and architectural design.
