The Hyper-Creative City: Hipsterfication in Amsterdam and Portland

Public Lecture, National Sculpture Factory, Cork, Ireland, January 25, 2018.

Comparing conditions of hyper-creativity in Amsterdam and Portland - two midsize cities with long histories of art-led regeneration - this talk explores the phenomenon of hipsterfication (gentrification-by-hipster). The focus is on what happens when cities fetishize creativity and embrace excess in the pursuit of accelerated development.

The talk is part of "Cork Conversations: Planning for the Future," a series of public events organized by the the National Sculpture Factory and Cork City Council. More details available here.
